Aloha, thousand apologies for the late start, usual stuff of blah blah blah... pC, email, MIS...so let;s get started, Me, Alan Gooi, from PENANG, whooo hoo. working class artist-in-heart that hopefully someone would appreciate his creation other than family... not even friends. started drawing+painting kid time, mostly wiht poster color, or water color. love art books. and try to emulate the artist work every other week. until dunno when did it stop, and ever once in a while thought of picking up the paintbrush or charcoal. but it needs to be a perfect timing, of when the sun and moon and earth are aligned... and so for most of my teens, one or 2 work in a year... after teens, one or none work per year... until recently, i saw in the newspaper bout 30dayartist.com, n had a look. it just inspire me to RE-pick up my paintbrush and lazy bum to start what i love. Drawing & Painting. i even went out to get a bunch of arcylic to try out, which was interesting.. to say the least. (might even share some of those if you guys/gals are kind) for your info, i don't blog. but nothing stopping me, eh? so hang on to your seat and enjoy the ride. TQ to all who made this happen.
this a one of the first few work with arcylic. i'm quite satisfied with it actually (for a freshie).
i'm always attracted to MINI Cooper, be it the new version or old... and that's it... quite tough a subject for myself, cars are so hard to draw as if there's a slight error with the proportion, it might end up look like kancil. i actually plan to do the old version as well, as it's cuter, but it has larger posibilities to turn into kelisa...
uh-oh, i think i made a mistake. file's too large, layout too small, and it's a little to dark as it was not corrected, it was from camera.
anyway, here;s another one of my favourite stuff. the old and oh-so classic Paggio Vespa scooter, in water color. not even sure if i spelt it right. i think yc did ask me whether there's a theme for this month, and i said to him, do we need one?
but, probably i'll create the theme for the first week as: "Favourite Stuff", as we'll go along until i got my next inspiration on the 2nd week.
apoloy for missing in action, I am fine if you are wondering.
just " s bz s a b", guess what does that mean? :p
so here;s another work of mine with watercolor. the new volkswagon beetle, which i think is funny+ cute looking, but come out short to the mini. what do you think?
made a little changes on Photoshop, does that constitute as cheating? i wonder if you ppl consider changes made on photo as ART? let me know...
for your info, i drive a beat-up-cheap-japanese-automobile-that-sometimes break down, and please don't assume i have all these favourite stuff of mine in my oh-so-huge garage in my lovely bungalow on a cliff right next to a white, pristine, sandy, breezy beach.
Now that would be my favourite stuff. i mean my favourite dream... well, CAN'T a guy DREAM... i'd say to you guys and gals
hi, here another arcylic work on paper, my favorite sport shoes from (can i mention brand names?) well, adidas, as you can recognize. it's actually a blue shoes, but i thought a red one would be more showy or glamourous...
but i love sport shoes, any classic styled ones, from any shoemaker. it's so comfie, but just a little bit stinky sometimes. none the less, better that the BORING BLACK working shoes. and no you cant' goto work with these...
next is a armchair, that i wish i have one in my room, so that i can lay back and relax, either with some soothing music or/and a good book. that's life...
even if i could afford it, that too much garbage in my room (and my life) that it just couldn't fit in, sometimes you need to let go of stuff, or things, or feelings, or ideas, or people, or scenes, both in your room and in your life. somethings you are not able to change, but i do believe that we ourselves are able to change, for the better. or continuously improve ourselves while trying to meet goals. not just WORK & WORK & WORK & still WORK. i'm impressed that some of artist are able to dedicate their life to art, or music, or sport, or love... can't we have them all? i wish, i really wish.
hei, as i was saying, the shoulder bag is one favourite stuff that i plan to get in future, not now. isn't it a looker, white bag on a cool dude.
Instead, i'm a cold guy with no bag, with no time management skill. apology to the creator for the AWOL, i'm committed to create 40 artworks but unable to commit to post every other day.
i'm not here to give excuses but i'm keep painting until i produce the numbers, hopefully more...
thanks guys for your support and picking up the pieces... heartfelt thanks..
"sob.. sob" tq :( --> :)
i though waht the heck, it isn't like that when i last saw it. i tried to upload with with my blog but it wasn't able to do so, so i had to try uploading the pics by itself. where i thought, it's still better than empty spaces. thanks again.
here goes another work, a cute one, i presumed, TA-DA, i present to you the BREADLOFT MAN, isn't he just cuddly, no he's not, he's a Hard -Cold Key Chain that moves (waves) his arms and legs when you pull his string... see pic, see the string down his butt.
Could you not like him? which superhero you know carries a smiley in his chest, which superhero bring a smile to your face (even if he doesn't save someone), which superhero do you know that waves to you whenever you like...
i think it's great for the kids (and even us oldies) deserves a HAPPY Faced superhero, Happiness is so under-rated, don't you think? ppl expect ppl to be serious all the time, you just can't let you hair down. i not really a happy person, but i'm glad i've someone that makes me happy, (ssshhh, i'll introduce to her if you keep your hands off), having someone, or something (e.g. ART, hobbies, thoughts..) that makes us happy keep us going, doesn't it? although i've goals to achieve, and sometimes it sucks to do what you need to do, but having those things in your life would really make a difference. Wish everybody out there a Happy Hour (not the drinking type)!!!
hei, these are a few designer chair that i like, the EGG chair and another piece from BB Italia, i enjoy looking at furniture design, do you? it's sometimes so interesting htat a chair could come in so many forms and designs, but yet so functional or even could be a artpiece (or center piece) . i like many of the Retro furnitures, from those like Charles & Ray Eames, Arne Jacobsen, Rohe van Mies ... their design is so timeless that it still look modern today, and highly sought as pieces for modern design.
the leggings is pencil drawn for BBi, as i not satisfied with what i've done on EEG, so i'm gonna leave it at that until i come up with an idea how to paint them. a lot of time, i leave the artwork after i'm out of idea, i'll continue working on the next when i fresh again, and excited to work on it again... it's almost like problem solving, usually i'll do that too.
i also love interior design, i try to buy ID books and megazine if i have extra $$ to spare, they are so darn expensive, it sometimes unacceptable... therefore i only have a few, anyone have any that they wanna give away? :p , thanks first.
did i tell you that i like watches? more than i like my mobile phone, i hate handphone, as it's so irritating, so annoying, so too convenience...(for ppl to find you when you don't want to be found)
anyway, i just remembered that nowadays, a lot of ppl are replacing the good old watches with time on handphone, do you? but i also relized that nowadays phone are so competitive priced that a Equipment that only tells time and date is not worthy anymore? how much of the stuff we love today or yesterday has been replace with Newer, Better, Pretiier, Technologicalier, than the stuff or bunch of stuff it replace. Are they worth it? i mean is it worth it to be replace... how much of our live is irreplaceable, and how much is? i wonder. are we being to open to new stuff or are we to open to change, i would accept if it is open to new ideas, but what about others?
enought bout that, this is the first watch i save and save and skimp through high school to buy it for myself, which i don't remember for what occasion i bought it for. i just like it so much, that i save, i took a bus to Penang Island (fyi, i'm a mainlander), change bus to Penang Plaza (fyi, the shop is no longer there), buy the watch, didn't tell parents, and wear it to school (after sometime, and with plastic sheet on). i was so proud of it, nobody ever wore a Chorograph with diving bezel (or maybe i didn;t know)... i still wear it till this day, but the strap is a gonner (no replacement when you need it), the battery is low, and it's no suitable for work. did i tell you that it can dive down to 200m, and NO, i don't dive. :)
it done on paper with arcylic, details with pen, i kinda like it, hopefully so do you.
now here another one, flower arrangementn (it's copied from a artbook), on paper with watercolor and crayon. i like flowers but i'm too forgetful and lazy to maintain them, so most of the time, they end up dead (just like your friends, if it's how you treat them). so i'll be working on a project (next month if possible) to create sand&rock garden with CACTUS (they die hard) in a aquarium that i found by the roadside.
i've been collecting stuff, such as rocks, stones, sand, seashells ; on another note, i've also been collecting erasers, bottles (liquer), boxes (dumped), megazines (trying to dump). and this will lead us to my next work, which i hope you can recognize a Coca-Cola bottle (mini size), not quite as i expected it to be, glasses is good to see but Bad to draw/paint. or probably i'm over my head.
but since the topic is still Favourite stuff, the Coke bottle is one of them, together with the Absolut bottle (aint the print advertising great!!! amazing even) but even harder to draw as it doesn't have any texture nor color. Tennessey whiskey & Contreue looks good to but still...
ok, i think enough of favourite stuff, i'm out of favourite stuff to draw+paint, here another theme, which "dream travel", i love travel, actually i just love seeing things, places, ppls, but travel is quite expensive, imho. i've just been to nearby country(places) that doesn't cost a bomb.
this is the scenery out of a travel megazine, a mountain site in europe, it supposed to look better, but i've posting it as a progress to the final version. it a arcylic on 20" x 30" frame+board, never ever done anything that huge in my life. so hopefully the end result would be good.
the following one is also a page on megazine, (megazines are full of inspirational + beautiful pictures) a car advert, it a night scene of a valley city. i'm quite satisfied with this, and no more development is going to be made, it an arcylic on 18" x 25" frame+ board. it's hanging on the wall right this moment and beside the window, that's why is the way it is
hello, able to complete some works in the holidays, here's a few scenery from an artbook that is unbelievable when i was young, now too
Watercolor on paper, Field by Pond
Watercolor on paper, Rocks by Pond
it seems that pond is the theme of the day (not really), just that most lovely scenery has either element of water in them, come to think of it, it's true most of the time even in photography.
next, here’s the last 2 pieces of my favourite stuff (maybe, if nothing else come up), the mini coke bottle (which was left out) and the Monaco watch... done on paper, arcylic+watercolor+pen (in no particular order)
Now, these are works done during the Xmas season, Merry Christmas to all, I don’t celebrate, and so I paint.
First stop, Italy, mama mia (cliché), it’s one place that I will visit before anything else, the grandeur, the history, the romance, not to mention – artisan & their works. This is a small acrylic painting on the almafi coast in Italy. it’s much more colorful and vibrant compare to the Mykonos island of Greece, which is quite BLUE, literally speaking.
hopefully I would be able to save enough for a trip in Europe, especially Italy, Spain, Czech republic… and therefore not have to look at pictures in magazines anymore.
Next stop, Santuary of Truth , a wooden structure (for religious practice) in Pattaya, Thailand, it’s a magnificient building using only wood carvings, not a single piece of nails, and it rises up to 200m. my sis had a chance to visit it during her biz trip and the interior was even more impressive. Pen and wash on paper
Here is an experimental replica (trying) of Van Gogh work, which is my favourite impressionism artist, and so is Renoir.
And here is the place I’ve been to (thankfully), Bali, Indonesia. It’s really a place worth going. so many things to see, arts, wood craft, stone craft, dance, temples, monuments, religious ceremonies, beaches, Sunsets & Sunrises, hotels (local flavoured), trinkets, VERY friendly & warm people, and rows and rows souvenirs for those who can’t resist.
This is the Tanah Lot Temple (temple by the sea), it a unbelievable temple that sits by the coast line, where it’s only accessible during low tide, which I was there during the evening, sun setting makes the view, the scenery even more breath taking. But the one I drew is during high tide where it’s is entirely an island, we are not allowed to enter the temple but seeing it is one of the highlights of my bali trip.
although i register as a arcylist and watercolorist, i'm going to present some pencil & charcoal works. most of it are advert from magazines, bracket denotes what type of advertismetn it's form. more to come...
