12″ x 15″, Oil on Canvas(click for larger pic)
Some things happened, i delayed my dreams. And now something else happened, and i am left with myself, someone i haven’t thought about much these few years.
I’ve been too comfortable, too comfortable to chase, to pursue , to take a long shot…….. That’s gonna change.

A friend of my dad rode this over to our house today, i love classic design, the curves of the bike are just gorgeous.

I carry on using pencil today, using a photo i took during my trip to Thailand, i drew Alfred.
I used to teach in a college, then i quit and went into design, but tommorow, i’m going back to teach…part time.
Hope i will be able to have something to post tommorow.
Let me know what you think about the painting and the drawing.

I do feel that drawing and painting are two very different discipline, being good at one dont automatically makes you good at the other…
It’s been a while since i use pencils, after all the painting, it feels refreshing to draw.

Me and Ming was classmate back in college, Chin Yew 1 batch our Junior….I remember final presentation sem 5, the whole class was given a big ass bungalow for our final exhibition. Everyone of us was super-competitive, we fought for the space.
We did everything from cleaning to hanging paintings, all the prep work. I didnt sleep for 24 hours building up to the opening, and 12 hours during the day itself. The show was a hit, it was smashing. I will try to recapture that feeling in this last week.

I enjoy painting this alot, mainly because of the size, i want to reverse the traditional way of composing a portrait, utilizing stark contrast in the background.
Like most out there, i can say that i have the best mom in the world, the only difference is, i really do have the best mom in the world. Sorry for painting you so late into the month ma!

Stared this 2 days ago, i think i might have bit off more than i can chew….
It’s five 12″x12″ canvases align vertically. It’s about twice the size of my previous work, but i feels that i need 4 times the effort to finish it.
Maybe i am a bit tired.
I will do something small tomorrow, going back to the way i started the month. I am moving too fast.

My bro John is 34, my niece yifan is almost 2. We all call her fun fun. She is pure sunshine.
My other bro Ryan took this pic, when i saw this, i felt it kinda correlates with the post i wrote about my father, about him taking me for rides on a bike when i was small. John and fun fun do this almost daily.
I did this as a gift to my brother, i’m not quite happy with it yet, but i’ll go back to it later. It doesnt has the looseness i like, maybe it’s because i was painting someone important to me, i painted it in a more refine and polished way.

I-Ming asked.
Feels surprisingly normal actually, more normal than usual if you believe, artistically, this is the most consistent and productive month of my life, even more than when i was in college. But it doesn’t feel extra special…..i like it this way. Easing in is very important, doing small canvases, using a limited pallet, nothing fancy, no fanfare.
I had a big studio once, under-used, it remain clean for the whole 1 and a half year i rented it. Total waste of space, i had rolls of canvases and large amount of paints, big ass stretchers and pretty expensive brushes….total waste of materials, only because i’ve never use them. I went around taking photos for use in paintings, I had lots of sketches and notes with ideas, 99% of them remains on paper.
I am painting in my room now, 1/8 the size of the studio i use to rent, hot, crowded, nowhere near ideal, and i am fast running out of space, but i am painting everyday.
Making paintings don’t have to be grand or far-fetch or mystical, it can be like cooking, cleaning or taking a walk. You don’t need alot to be able to paint.
I feel like a painter, i feel perfectly normal.
